PubCon: Yahoo Party At The Playboy Suite Wow, what a party! Yahoo had a very private, invite-only party at the Palms Towers in the Playboy suite. Thank you to Yahoo PR for letting me bring Karen and Jolina from the TopRank team. This was their first conference and Karen's fist time in Las Vegas.
Google Groups Regroups With Beta It's more than just a facelift, as Google took the existing Groups service that grew from its long-ago purchase of Dejanews into a more Googly look with an expanded set of features. Maybe it is more remarkable that Google has learned to take a joke. The company's wide variety of product releases have a lot of Beta labels...
First Made-For-Internet Movie To Premiere The first made-for-the-Internet, "theatrically budgeted" movie will premiere on AOL this Halloween, AUTOMATIC producer Adam Shapiro told the attendees at this year's VON. Shapiro was part of a roundtable discussion about film and TV on the Web and how we get there. IEntry Inc. CEO Rich Ord sat in on the discussion at VON about...
MySpace Cuts In On Record Label Turf Musicians may finally have a way to bypass the recording contract holy grail that up-and-coming artists have perpetually sought for decades. MySpace announced a deal with Snocap that will allow them to sell music downloads directly to fans through their profile pages. Through the partnership, Snocap provides...
YouTube's Night In Paris YouTube's quest to maximize its monetary potential culminates with a night in Paris. Sorry. Wrong preposition. A night with Paris. Kicking off the premiere video site's venture into rich media advertising, Paris Hilton, gets her own channel to promote her music video and...

SES: Your Video Wants A Meta Tag During an early session at SES Chicago 2006, the speakers on the topic of video optimization all made a similar suggestion - keep that meta data identifiable so your video will be too. Chris Richardson of WebProNews was on hand to pick up the details.
Yahoo TV Changes To Peanut Butter Channel Recent changes to the Yahoo TV section of the Yahoo website drew irritated responses from users and several screeds from bloggers denouncing those alterations. Search Pushes Retailer Traffic Getting to an online retail storefront doesn't always involve going straight to the front door, as many people depend on the traffic cops of search to point them in the right direction. That direction from the major search engines would be upstream, as 25 percent of traffic received by over 19,000 retailers starts with a...
A Plea: Don't Overthrow King Content Traditional media powerhouses, who spent the better part of the 20th Century perfecting content production and distribution, will have to change everything or risk being left behind. But there are some old-world moves, according to Bear Sterns, that will keep them afloat in a world to be ruled by Google and Yahoo.

Trust In Search! Dinner
By
Lee Odden
At Search Engine Strategies conferences there are always after-conference events and last night was no exception.
The SES Dinner hosted by Allan Dick of Vintage Tub and Bath was definitley a winner in my book.
Allan Dick
Sponsors included: Hitwise, pepperjamSEARCH, Range Online Media, Performics and Bizresearch who were all limited to using a single haiku (a 17-syllable Japanese poem) to tell the dinner attendees bout their services. Then we graded their performances and the top two winners won the highly-coveted "Footie" award (a clawfoot tub foot bolted to a wooden base). Todd Friesen of Range Online Media was a winner, and I believe pepperjamSEARCH was the other winner. I have videos of each haiku and will be uploading them to Google video later this week.
The dinner was held at Fogo De Chao Brazilian Steakhouse and the food was absolutely amazing. I do believe I came close to a werty meat coma.
BizResearch Laura Thieme and friends
I sat across from two staffers with BizResearch pictured here with their CEO Laura Thieme. I should note that Laura did her haiku in Russian (complete with fur hat) and in English. Alas, it was a tough crowd and she did not win.
Shoemoney
Shoemoney was there taking lots of pictures. See his photos from last year here.
There was also a prize drawing with giveaways from attendees like Brian Mark of ToolBarn.com (Chris Sherman won for the second year in a row) and Rand Fishkin got in the game and gave away a link from SEOMoz. From the look on the winner's face, I am not sure he knew what to do with such a prized gift.
There were many other items given away, but I was having too much fun throwing around the balsa wood airplanes and talking to Jonah Stein, a VERY savvy/smart SEO/SEM Director from Alchemist Media.
Chocolat Truffles from Vosges
At the end of the dinner, Katrina Markoff of Vosges Chocolate did a chocolate truffle tasting, which was a fantastic and we were all sent home with another box along with a catalog.
Trust in Search!
There was also this cool t-shirt, "Trust in Search" in a cold war-Soviet style theme. Nice.
Thank you to Incisive and Allan for inviting me to the dinner, it was fantastic.
